There is a battle going on near Myawaddy Town, and the army of the military council is firing continuously with heavy weapons

Residents of Myawaddy Town said that fighting has been going on since 6:00 a.m. on August 7th until this morning at Lat Khat Taung near Myawaddy Town.

The fighting between the Military Council Army and the KNLA Joint Forces took place almost every day in Lat Khat Taung near Myawaddy Town since last July 9th and on the day 21st of July, the KNLA Joint Forces captured the military’s camp on the hill.

At present, the military council is trying to recapture the Lat Khat Taung camp, and Local residents of Myawaddy said that, in the vicinity of Lat Khat Taung, a battle is taking place between the White Dragon Column, the Cobra Column, and the Military Council troops.

“The battle happened until the evening, over 100 shots were fired with heavy weapons, and there was also the White Dragon column included and which took place on the side of the Tone bridge yesterday, and also on the side of the veterans.” said a resident of Mayawaddy.

A spokesperson for Cobra Column said that until now, the fighting is still going on near Lat Khat Taung, and heavy weapons are being fired continuously from various positions of the Military’s camp on the hill in Mayawaddy.

“Currently, the battle is still going on and subsequently the army is firing heavy weapons from various places of the Military’s camp on the hill in Myawaddy Town. And that there are many casualties on the side of the army, but this cannot be confirmed yet,” he said.

Due to the fighting happening near Myawaddy Town, the inner Mekanal, As well as outside of the Mekanal, Myitta Linn Myaing, Pwint Lin Aye Myaing, and Kyauk Loung Gyi Monastery, and in addition, more than 600 local people who live near the Lat Khat Taung area are fleeing the war in monasteries in Myawaddy Town, said a civil society worker.

“Currently, there are over 170 in TawYa Monastery and more than 100 in Kha Khat Taw and some are living in other schools. Now it’s raining and the living conditions are tight, and after the fleeing of the war is almost 1 month, the number of people who came to donate has decreased,” he said.

In Myawaddy, Kawkareik, Kyar Inn Seik Gyi, Hpapun, and Than Daung Gyi Town in Karen State, battles are taking place almost every day and floods are also occurring due to the constant rain.
