Security has been tightened inside the school due to a drone hovering near Myawaddy No.1 Basic Education High School(BEHS)

In Karen State, according to the parents of the students, a drone flew near the No. (1) BEHS in Myawaddy town on September 5th in the afternoon.

The student’s parents said that even though there was no school closure on the morning of September 6th, if there were any shootings, there would be traffic jams and the school’s entrances and exits would be blocked after school time. Due to this reason, parents didn’t allow their children to go to school because they were worried that they would not be able to pick them up after school.

“Yesterday, many soldiers arrived at the school, so we didn’t allow the children to go to school. The soldiers perhaps take security. Yesterday, my daughter told me that a drone came to the school. And thus, if something happens,I ‘m worried that I can’t pick up my kid suddenly. The road will be closed, and my children will be blocked from the exit,” said one of the student’s parents.

A local woman in Myawaddy said that although there are no reports of drones flying around the school campus, military council soldiers are guarding the school campus. And if there have been shootings in Myawaddy town, there have been cases before when parents went to pick their children up, then the soldiers didn’t let their children go. Due to these similar cases, parents didn’t allow their children to go to school at that time.

“Yesterday, when my niece came back from school, she said there were military guards at the school. Most of the students did not go to school this morning even though the school is open. I don’t know what’s going on inside. I didn’t send my kid to school this morning. If there’s an uproar, the school won’t let them come out of school when the parents pick their children up, so I’m worried. The situation here is not stable,” he said.

A person close to the school said that the increased security on the school campus is due to the fear of drones, and on the morning of September 6th, there were hardly any students attending school.

In addition, the Federal Wings drone group has stated that the employees of the department under the military council and their family members who live near the departmental office stationed by the military council in Myawaddy town need to evacuate somewhere in a safe place.

Last September 3, Myawaddy police station and the general administration office were attacked by drones, resulting in killing 6 people, including top military council officers, and injuring many.

In the Karen state area, according to the statement of the KNLA joint forces, in July, August and now until September, many townships where military councils are stationed and the departmental offices were attacked by drones and bombs and continued to intercept military council convoys there.
