Residents reported that a car bomb exploded at the Than Lwin Bridge checkpoint in Hpa-An, Karen State at 6:45 a.m. this morning and casualties resulted in at least 10 people injured.
A social relief worker who did not want to be named said that the checkpoint of the Military Council was damaged after the mines explosion and some civilians, including the Military Council, were injured and one died on the spot.
“Their checkpoint was completely crushed and one died. The rest were resulting in leg injuries and head injuries, and three people needed to have a CT scan. Out of all 12 people, one died. Among the civilians who got involved in the explosion, one civilian died and 2 civilians were injured. A mine was set off by a car, but he doesn’t know exactly as he is not around there” he said.
“Those who were injured in the explosion were also sent to the Military Council’s Taung Kalay hospital,” he continued.
“Those who are injured are in the Taung Kalay Military Hospital( 100-Bedded ),” he said.
A local woman said that after a car bomb explosion at the ThanLwin Bridge checkpoint, many social welfare vehicles from Hpa-An town also left for the ThanLwin Bridge checkpoint.
“There were a lot of ambulances, I don’t know where they came from, and they all went down and many were harmed,” he said.
Additionally, according to the Hpa-An residents, the Military Council troops are not permitted to pass through the ThanLwin Bridge.
At present, it is reported that the Military Council has increased its forces and is conducting more inspections than before at the entry and exit checkpoints of Hpa-An Town such as Ein Du Toll Gate, Lan Gwa, the Checkpoint at the entrance of Taung Kalay and the Zar Ta Pyin Bridge on the Hpa- An – Mawlamyine road.
