A soldier from BGF-Cantonment (2) under the Military Council came to join the Cobra column ,which is Karen National Liberation Army-KNLA forces in Brigade (6) area of Karen State, on August 17 with weapons and ammunition reported by the Dupalaya District-News and Information office.
The person who came to join was a 36-year-old soldier, Aung Ko Oo, who brought with him a 16-A1 gun, 5 boxes of ammunition, and 150 of 5.56 bullets.
He came to join the KNLA joint forces because he did not like the military council’s unjust oppression and would fight together with the KNLA joint forces until the end of the revolution against the Military Coup.
During the month of August, three people entered the legal fold from the military council’s side to the Cobra Column, and the people who joined were in a safe place, said Captain Dabaw of the Cobra Column.
“Within a month, three people, one from the BGF, two from the Military junta army. We will hand them over to the People’s Embrace and are connecting to the People’s Embrace. For now, they are kept with us. Their families are in safe places in the villages.” He said.
The KNLA joint forces gave 50,000 Thai baht to those soldiers who entered the legal fold.
It has been more than 1 month since the KNLA joint forces captured Latkhat Taung near Myawaddy town, and the military council has been trying to recapture Latkhat Taung again, and there have been at least ten clashes between both sides.
At present, the fighting around Latkhat Taung has been quiet for almost one week, and the Military Council’s side is making preparations for operation, added by Captain Dabaw.
“As for the military, we haven’t launched an offensive for about 1 week. We used to go on an offensive all the way through, and at the time the military side suffered a serious injury, an offensive hadn’t been launched until now . I heard that they are making preparations, on the enemy side.” he said.
Cobra Column has said that religious buildings have been damaged due to heavy weapons fire and aerial bombardment by the Military regime to recapture the Latkhat Taung military camp, which was taken over by the KNLA joint forces.
