In Karen State, some residents of Kawkareik are leaving their homes and fleeing after reports that fighting will take place in Kawkareik last September 15th, according to Kawkareik residents.
Clashes between the Military Council Army and the KNLA joint forces often occur in Kawkareik, and the military situation between the two sides is tense at the moment.
A local resident of Kawkareik said that after a military council’s checkpoint was attacked on the Taung kyarinn-Hlaing kwei road in Kawkareik Township last September 11,while the Light Infantry Regiment 97th of the Military Council Army is firing heavy weapons, some residents are also leaving their homes in Kawkareik Township.
“These days,fewer people come to the market, there are no more crowds anymore. Like in the city. Now I have heard that the situation in the city is not good. People didn’t dare to go to the hospital. The military council was stationed near the hospital. Every night, the military vehicle turns around and patrols.Last night, they shot big bombs,” he said.
Currently, military council troops stationed around Kawkareik town are frequently attacked, and according to a KNLA source, three soldiers of the Military Council were killed and 10 were injured due to an attack on the military council ambushed near the swimming pool in Kamai Gone Village last September 16.
“The current situation is that our revolutionary forces are ready at their duty stations. Last September 16th, they went to attack military council troops who were wearing camouflage and ambushed near the swimming pool. Three of the military council troops were killed and 10 were injured,” he said.
Due to frequent attacks on the places where the Military Council is stationed, the Light Infantry Regiment 97th , the Light Infantry Battalion 546 ,the Infantry Battalion 230 and the Infantry Regiment 208 in Kawkareik Town and Kyondoe Townships, attacked with heavy weapons towards the Taung Kyar Inn village, Kamai Gone Village, Chaung Taung Village,KawtNwe village and to the sides of Taw Naw Waterfall almost every night.
Additionally ,a 15-year-old boy in Naung Talar village was hit in the head by the firing of the Light Infantry Battalion 546th under the State Administration Council last September 16th, according to local news sources.
